*Daily Shampooing is not recommended for African American hair.
Ethnic hair is dryer than other types of hair. Shampooing it to often
will strip away oils,"try every 3 to 7 days".

Any excessive shampooing on relaxed hair may dry it out.

*Always wrap your hair in a satin or silk scarf before bed, this will
help the hair retain it's moisture. DO NOT WRAP YOUR HAIR IN
COTTON. Cotton will strip your hair of all it's natural oils and cause
the hair to break.

*Limit use of hot tools (blow dryer/ Curling irons). If you do need
to use them, make sure you used a leave in conditioner to the hair
after shampooing and do not use them more than once a week.
Using too much heat on any hair will cause dryness and breakage.

*Stay away from heavy products, Greasy products may actually
clog hair follicles and cause other problems (like Acne). Silicone base
products are good for any hair to make it shine without a oily build
up ( bottle wont say Silicone ), the label will say "dimethicone" as
key ingredient.

Dry Scalp: Sometimes dry scalp is caused by a yeast over growth
on the skin (Sebhorreic dermititis), talk to a dermatologist if you
have this problem. This problem can be very damaging to the hair
especially for men. Keep hair moisturized and wear hats with natural
fibers that breath.
Flaky type of dandruff: The best advise is a regular scalp massage.
Use mild shampoos on the hair and daily use of antiseptic scalp
lotions from your local pharmacy.
Waxy type of dandruff:  Be very cautions. Itching or scratching the
scalp can cause bleeding or oozing of Sebum (natural scalp oil)

Total or spot loss: Hair breaks at the scalp in some cases are caused
by chemicals. If burns occur on the skin/scalp it can also leave scars
and may stop the hair from growing temporarily or permanently as
results from a chemical treatment. Be very careful not to use home
relaxer kits at home on you or your children (just because they sale it
doesn't mean you should use it). Relaxers are one of the strongest
chemicals in the beauty industry and should be applied by a
professional.
Moisturing/hydrating shampoos and conditioners are great for the
hair. Colorado is a very dry climate so you want to make sure the
hair retains its luster/Moisture.
Always use a blow drying sealers on the hair to protect it from the
heat when blow drying & curling with hot tools.
(Kera Kare make s a great one).

Natural Hair
If you are wearing your hair natural, always make sure you keep the
hair moisturized. Natural hair will tend to dry without proper care.
Always use a lite natural oil or moisturizer on natural hair when it is
wet (after shampoo & conditioning it).
Make sure you tie your natural hair up at night before bed.
Twisting natural hair when wet is a great way to style it. Let it air
dry after twisting it or sit under a warm hooded dryer for faster
results.
